The Italian Dr Sacco was one of the most extensive vaccinators in the world, following Edward Jenner’s epoch-making publication on cow-pox vaccination. By 1809 he had succeeded in reaching ”a million and a half vaccinated people, five hundred of whom I had the satisfaction of vaccinating myself.”
